As far as tech reveals go, the recent Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2024 in early-July certainly had no shortage of variety.

From new foldable smartphones and Galaxy AI innovations to the now-infamous Galaxy Ring, there is a lot to take away from the Korean tech giant’s biannual showcase. In fact, now that many of these new products are finally available, a quick refresher course might do us all some good, especially if you’re already interested in them. So, with that said, let’s get right into it.

What was introduced at Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2024?

As a whole, the event saw Samsung roll out a slew of new products while also heavily emphasising the integration of Galaxy AI functions across their ecosystem. We’ll be discussing some of the more notable additions briefly alongside the hardware improvements in their respective sections.

Here’s a quick look at today’s menu:

  • Galaxy Ring

  • Foldables: Galaxy Z Fold6 and Z Flip6

  • Smartwatches: Galaxy Watch Ultra and Watch7

  • Earbuds: Galaxy Buds3 and Buds3 Pro

Galaxy Ring

Although Samsung unveiled lots of new devices and tech during the showcase, the one that had folks really talking was undoubtedly the Galaxy Ring. Constructed out of titanium and equipped with a wide variety of health and fitness sensors, the Galaxy Ring is Samsung’s latest entry to the smart wearables market.

What is the Galaxy Ring?

Positioned as an unobtrusive healthcare companion, the Galaxy Ring is capable of tracking heart rate, blood oxygen levels, sleep tracking data, and more. It packs up to a week of battery life and can be seamlessly integrated with the Samsung Health app, allowing users to easily monitor training plans and exercise regimens.

Aside from health and fitness, Samsung has also confirmed several day-to-day uses for the Galaxy Ring. Essentially, you’ll be able to snap photos and snooze alarms with the Galaxy Ring and even track it down easily when it’s been misplaced. In fact, the sheer number of opportunities Samsung can expand on with the Galaxy Ring is absolutely immense, so it’s no surprise to see it being the most interesting takeaway from Galaxy Unpacked 2024.

Samsung Galaxy Ring Release Date

Unfortunately, as interesting as it might be, the Galaxy Ring is currently only available in the United States. We’re not yet sure when (or if) Singapore will be getting a shipment of these, but you can rest assured that we’ll keep you in the loop.

Foldables

For the foldables crowd, Samsung’s latest generation of Galaxy Z series phones offer significant improvements in the realm of AI features, weight, and gaming performance. They’ve also been touted as the slimmest, lightest, and most durable Galaxy Z series models yet, sporting sturdy Armor Aluminium II chasses and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 displays.

Individually, both the Z Fold6 and Z Flip6 have also received Galaxy AI tools that leverage their different form factors. For example, the former received Sketch to Image, which uses generative AI to turn random squiggles on a page into cohesive artistic pieces. There are five different artistic styles to choose from, and according to The Verge’s experience with them (thanks!), it’s apparently quite good. Meanwhile, the Galaxy Z Flip6 received FlexCam with Auto Zoom, which automatically adjusts capture settings so you can effortlessly nail that perfect selfie or group shot.

Boasting a 7.6-inch main display and a 6.2-inch cover display, both of which offer a 120Hz refresh rate, the new Galaxy Z Fold6 is meant to be a productivity powerhouse, enabling users to multitask effortlessly even on the go.

Stylus buffs will also be delighted to hear that Samsung has enhanced the performance of the S Pen, making it more responsive and natural to use on the Galaxy Z Fold6’s expansive screen. Bringing up the rear are a powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor and a 4,400 mAh battery, ensuring top-tier processing speed and battery life.

Equipped with a larger 6.9-inch, 120Hz Dynamic AMOLED display compared to its predecessor, the new-and-improved Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 seeks to double down on the line’s biggest claim to fame: photography and selfies. Supporting this endeavour are a Snapdragon Gen 3 processor, a 3,700mAh battery, a IPX8 water resistance rating, and an upgraded 50MP wide lens that allows for higher-quality photos and videos.

Indeed, like the new foldables, both the Galaxy Watch7 and Galaxy Watch Ultra incorporate a slew of brand-new features that support their core functions.
