In a world where constant connectivity is essential, simply owning a phone is no longer enough – you’ll also need to have a mobile plan that complements your lifestyle.

Of course, picking the right one is much easier said than done, and if you’re not sure where (or how) to start your search, then this overview is where you want to be.

Today, we’ll cover the basics of modern mobile plans, explore the different options at StarHub, and if you’re interested to learn more about a particular type of plan, we’ve got loads of additional resources that you can check out too.

As always, we recommend taking it right from the top with us, but if you’d like to hop over to a specific section, please don’t hesitate to do so!

What's in a StarHub Mobile Plan?

Before we even think about choosing a mobile plan, it’s always good to understand the key components that go into one. From mobile data allowances and talktime to helpful add-ons like roaming data, every component should (ideally) improve your lifestyle or provide extra utility, so let’s start off by breaking these down.

Mobile Data

Typically measured in gigabytes (GB), our
mobile data component is what determines
our available internet usage for that plan
cycle, keeping us connected when
we’re on the go.

Talktime

The talktime component determines how
long we can spend speaking over the
phone. Normally, you’ll see this listed
in minutes (mins).

SMS

Although most folks rely on instant messaging
apps nowadays, SMS services are still important
in case you need to send messages when those
aren’t available.

Extras & Value-Adds

Arguably the most diverse component of a
mobile plan, you’ll commonly find extras
and add-ons (like our Free International
Roaming subscription here!) splashed in to
provide users with extra convenience and
utility. Needless to say, the more, the merrier!

Which Is the Best StarHub Mobile Plan for You?

Now, it’s time to check out the spread of mobile plans at StarHub.

Whether you're a frequent traveller craving flexible data options or are simply looking for the best mobile plan to enjoy the latest devices with, there’s no need to worry – we’ve got you covered.

No-contract SIM Only Star Plan

Pick this plan if you:

  • Are relatively satisfied with your current device

  • Would prefer not to commit to a long-term mobile phone contract

  • Want the freedom to tweak your mobile plans

For those seeking maximum flexibility and control over their mobile plan, our no-contract SIM Only Star Plan is the optimal choice.

As the name suggests, these plans come with no long-term commitments (which means no early termination fees!) and users can also customise various components – including mobile data, talktime, and more via the StarHub App.

Notably, because you’re only paying for the services that you want to use, these plans are (typically) cheaper than an equivalent postpaid plan, though it’s worth mentioning that there’s no device included by default.

Of course, you can still purchase a new one at any time via Buy Now Pay Later, but on the whole, this plan works best for users who are already satisfied with their current phone, want immediate flexibility to upgrade to new devices and tweak their plans, or would simply prefer not to lock in to a conventional 2-year contract.

At the moment, users can choose from 2 different no-contract SIM Only Star Plan options, and eSIM is also available if you prefer them. Check out our Star Plan page for full details, or have a look at our Star Plan writeup.

  • Star Plan L

2-year Device Plan

Pick this plan if you:

  • Need a new device

  • Want the best possible value and cost savings from your mobile plan

  • Prefer standardised and consistent monthly payments

Meanwhile, for users who would prefer to pick a subscription and call it a day (at least for the next 24 months), or if you want a new device at great prices, our 2-year Device Plan might be your best bet.

Unlike our SIM-only Star Plan above, our 2-year Device Plan always comes with a shiny new device for you to take home. In exchange for a 2-year commitment, you’ll enjoy immense savings on the newest devices and can comfortably spread it across the 24-month contract period.

Additionally, these plans usually come with a swath of other perks too, like free subscriptions to streaming services or complimentary roaming data allowances to supported destinations. As such, we’d recommend them for users who simply want to get the best value possible from their mobile plans.

Currently, StarHub has 4 different options available, as listed below. Head on over to the 2-Year Device Plan page for more information on their specific offerings or check out our dedicated Guide to StarHub Device Plan.

Senior Plans

Pick this plan if you (or the person you’re subscribing for):

  • Are aged 60 years old and above

  • Primarily rely on your phone for communication

  • Want a low-cost plan tailored for simplicity

Available to subscribers aged 60 years old and above, StarHub’s Senior Citizen Plans focus on keeping things simple and affordable for our beloved elders; while still ensuring they can enjoy online experiences and stay connected to loved ones.

Doing away with some of the fancier inclusions like gaming subscriptions (that older users might find less useful), these plans offer reduced prices and a more straightforward lineup of features. They’re clear-cut and easy to understand, making it easier for both your aged parents (or you!) to manage billing and subscription.

As for specific plans, you’ll be happy to know that StarHub has three senior plan options catered for both contract and contract-free formats. You can click on the respective links below to learn more about them or hop over to our Senior Citizen Mobile Plans Guide.

Useful Mobile Plan Value-Adds to Consider

Speaking of add-ons, StarHub has a wide variety to choose from, all of which are designed to complement our mobile plans and further enhance your mobile experiences. Accordingly, here are three that we will work great for the vast majority of mobile plans and user profiles.

Feel free to check out our full list of mobile add-ons too.

Caller Number Display

With phone scams and other threats of that nature on the rise, it’s best to safeguard ourselves (and our loved ones) where we can. At just $5.50/mth, Caller Number Display allows subscribed users to see the number associated with incoming calls, providing them with more information on whether it’s a potential scam or a legitimate caller. Notably, all of our Senior Plans come with this included by default.

Receiving calls from suspicious numbers lately? Here’s what you can do about it.

Block Overseas Calls & SMSes

This is a free service for all StarHub mobile subscribers and Star Plan users, which you can manually activate via the StarHub App. As the title suggests, this service blocks all incoming calls and SMS messages from overseas and international numbers, while still allowing those from +65 local numbers through even when you’re travelling.

However, because scams nowadays can also originate from local numbers, we recommend pairing this up with Caller Number Display.

SmartSupport

SmartSupport (and SmartSupport Plus) are device care subscriptions, providing helpful features like device swaps, replacements, deep cleaning, and more. They’re available to all StarHub mobile customers, including those who purchase devices through non-StarHub channels.

Sign-ups can be done via our Online Store (only with a new mobile plan), the StarHub app, or in any of our retail stores. For more information, consider taking a look at our SmartSupport writeup.

How to Easily Assess and Choose Your Mobile Plan

Now that you know what you can expect to see in a StarHub mobile plan as well as the various types we have available, let’s take a closer look at how to assess which one is the best for your needs. While the most important thing to factor in are your individual circumstances and budgets, here are some questions that might help streamline your decision.

1. Do I tend to text or call more?

If you usually prefer to communicate with friends and family over a phone call, you might want to choose a plan that offers more talktime. Naturally, the reverse is also true – if you’re more reliant on instant messaging apps like WhatsApp or Telegram, then check out plans that provide more mobile data.

2. What do I usually do with my mobile data?

For users who frequently play mobile games or stream content on the go, perhaps our Device Plan options, which offer large amounts of mobile data plus free limited-time subscriptions to services like NVIDIA GeForce NOW and Amazon Prime, might be a good place to start.

Meanwhile, if you lean more towards casual Web surfing, checking out our no-contract SIM only Star Plan is a great first step. That way, you’ll be able to easily purchase additional mobile data if the situation calls for it.

3. Do I need a new device?

Although you’ll be able to pick up a new device alongside any of our mobile plans, you’ll enjoy comparatively greater cost savings on our 2-year Device Plan as compared to the Star Plan options. Of course, you should always prioritise your own preferences – if you would rather not commit to a 2-year contract, then feel free to go with the latter.

4. Do I travel overseas often, and if yes, where to?

Whether you’re taking a quick overseas jaunt over the long weekend or a full-fledged end-of-year vacation, roaming data allowances can come in handy for keeping you connected—especially when they’re free!

Our StarHub mobile plans, such as all 2-year Device Plan and Star Plan L, include free roaming data to eligible destinations, either within the Asia-Pacific region or globally, depending on the plan. So, if you’re a frequent traveller, it’s worth focusing on mobile plans that offer such perks.

Simplify Your Mobile Plan Search with StarHub!

At the end of the day, choosing the right mobile plan comes down to understanding your specific needs and preferences, weighing what’s available, then selecting the one that works best.

Certainly, that can be challenging at times. But whether you value flexibility, affordability, or added features, there’s a StarHub plan designed for that, so take your time to explore the available options before deciding. Of course, if you need some extra help, hop on down to one of our retail stores – our staff will be delighted to assist you!
